On/Off Artist's Book

In the music world and in life, there are many on/off switches.

Unfortunately, sometimes things don't always line-up smoothly.

Other times, everything lines up nicely.

Artist Process

The On/Off Artist's book was a fun project. I was exploring through ideas by folding one piece of 11 x 15-inch paper used for watercolor.

I cut out a square piece in the top right corner for no reason other than to practice cutting with a utility blade.

It was late at night, and I decided to sleep and take a look at things in the morning. (Isolation)

Discovery ideas started arising in the morning when I was thinking of the lettering. (Sudden Discovery)

I decided to fold one more piece of paper the same size and place it in the partially cut paper.

The significant discovery came right after that, with an idea to make it a puzzle style book. (Sudden Discovery)

I started lettering the outside cover with the letter "N,' just below the square cut out in the top right-hand corner.

I flipped the cover over vertically, cut another square in the top right-hand corner, and then added the letters "FF" vertically below the cutout square.

The second inside page was left uncut, and I added the letters "O" to the top right side.

The outside covers now read on and off, going down the right-hand side vertically.

The final step was to add the word "ON." (left inside page), and "off" upside down (right inside page).

To complete the puzzle, the user must have the words on and off right side up on both sides.
